Privacy Policy for ECHO Research

1. Our Commitment to Privacy

ECHO Research (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is part of the University of Alberta and is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act (POPA). This statement explains how we collect, use, and disclose personal information through our website, echokt.ca.

 

2. Authority for Collection

Any personal information collected through this website is collected under the authority of the Post-secondary Learning Act and section 34(1)(a) of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) for the purposes stated below. It is required for the operation of our programs and services.

 

3. Personal Information We Collect

We limit the collection of personal information to what is necessary for the purposes of our research and website operations.

  • Information Collected Automatically: We automatically log non-identifiable technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, to help us manage our website and improve our services.
  • Information You Provide Voluntarily: We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it, for instance, by filling out a contact form, signing up for a newsletter, or participating in a research survey. In each case, you will be notified of the specific purpose for which that information is being collected.

4. Purpose, Use, and Disclosure of Your Information

The personal information we collect will be used only for the purpose for which it was collected or for a consistent purpose, unless you consent to another use or as authorized by POPA. These purposes may include:

  • To conduct our research activities.
  • To communicate with you and respond to your inquiries.
  • To provide you with information about our research and events.
  • To meet our statutory obligations under POPA and other relevant legislation.

We will not disclose your personal information to third parties except as required or authorized by law. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

 

5. Data Security

We protect your personal information by making reasonable security arrangements against risks such as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, or destruction. These safeguards are in line with the University of Alberta’s information security policies.

 

6. Your Right to Access and Correct Information

Under the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), you have a right to access your own personal information and to request a correction of that information if you believe it is inaccurate. To request access to or correction of your personal information, please contact the University of Alberta Information, Privacy and Records Management Office or contact us.

 

7. Google Analytics

ECHO Research and the University of Alberta use Google Analytics to gather statistics on portions of its website. ECHO Research will use the information gathered to improve digital services for its users.

 

Google Analytics employs cookies to define user sessions, which allows for the collection of important data about how our patrons are using the site. Google Analytics uses only first-party cookies for data analysis. This means that the cookies are linked to the ualberta.ca website domain(s), and ECHO Research will only use the collected data and cookies for aggregate, including age, gender and possibly interests for non-individual statistical analysis related to your browsing behaviour.

 

According to Google, the data collected cannot be altered or retrieved by services from other domains. We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The updated version will be posted on this website.

Physical treatments can include physiotherapy, prescribed exercise plans, strengthening exercises, massage, and more. 

Psychological treatments can include counselling or talk therapy, supportive therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, mediation, and more. They can be provided on a one-on-one basis or in a group setting.
